Built on the remains of the Ancient Etruscan City, in Populonia you can visit the Archaeological Park and the Etruscan Museum.
7 km away from our B&B, the medieval village of Suvereto is a settlement dating back to the 10th century, and one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. The walls and towers of the “Borgo” are small architectural treasures such as the fortress “Rocca Aldobrandesca“, the town hall and the Franciscan Monastery. During your visit to Suvereto, make sure you go wine tasting at one of the town’s wine cellars or wine shops, or one nearby: a tasteful and relaxing occasion.
30 km away from our B&B, the town of Massa Marittima is one of our area’s gems and has one of the most beautiful squares in Italy. The Duomo, dating back to the mid-12th century, represents one of the most important monuments of Romanesque art in the Maremma and Tuscany. In the old part of town, you can take advantage of the numerous restaurants to sample typical Tuscan products.
During your holiday, dedicate a whole day to discover Piombino, a town still unknown to many that hides some unique treasures, such as the small port Porticciolo di Marina where the fishermen depart and return every day in their small, colourful boats. Worth a visit is the splendid and unique square Piazza Bovio, surrounded on three sides by the crystal blue sea. From the end of the square on very clear days, it appears as if you can almost touch the island of Elba!
The town of San Vincenzo is a popular destination for young people, thanks to its lively nightlife, which especially in summer, concentrates on the seafront. Shops open until late at night, and the discos and pubs become the beating heart of the town. Allow yourself some time to walk along the promenade Camminata del Marinaio, so named for the striking statue by the artist Giampaolo Talani, which depicts a sailor welcoming the incoming boats.
It is one of the most famous summer destinations in the Grosseto Maremma and more generally of Tuscany. The progressive urban expansion towards the sea, which took place mainly during the last century, has made Follonica a city with a strong tourist vocation, although its foundation dates back to the 16th century (AD), when it established itself in the Tuscan territory as an important iron and steel pole. In fact, the historic center of Follonica coincides with the ancient perimeter wall (fence) which enclosed the ironworks. The coast of Follonica is particularly appreciated for the sandy seabed which slopes slowly towards the open sea. A feature that allows anyone to be able to immerse themselves in water without running any risks.
Born as Castagneto Marittimo and became Castagneto Carducci in 1907 in honor of the famous poet who spent his childhood in these lands, the Borgo is absolutely one of the stops to include in our travelogue during your holidays in Tuscany.Immersed in the Livornese Maremma, in the heart of the Etruscan Coast, unlike other Tuscan villages in the area, Castagneto is more like a town, certainly larger and with a decidedly greater number of inhabitants than for example the near Bolgheri, with which it is connected by the marvelous Bolgheri road that offers unique sceneries, slipping between vineyards and cultivated fields.
In Castagneto you will have the chance to walk through the streets of the village and see antique shops with typical products, restaurants, panoramic squares and wine bars where you can taste the symbolic product of this area: Bolgheri DOC wines
This characteristic municipality in the Tuscan Maremma is definitely worth a visit for the intimate atmosphere one breathes while strolling through its narrow alleys and for the medieval air that hovers within its walls. The undisputed symbol of the town, present in every image that represents it, is the Rocca Pisana, whose origin dates back to the 10th century AD. From here you can enjoy a breathtaking panorama that stretches across the Gulf of Follonica. Scarlino is a place rich in historical architecture, where you can enjoy delicious little restaurants where you can savour typical Maremma cuisine. It also boasts a modern marina, the Marina di Scarlino, which takes its name from the ancient ‘Portus Scabris’, a port of call dedicated to the trade of iron ore from the island of Elba, wine, oil and ceramics since Roman times.
