BB La Vecchia Fonte

The park covers a vast area of 450 hectares , the park is a true jewel that encompasses museums, mining galleries, archeo-mining trails and the historic Rocca San Silvestro, an ancient mining village founded in the Middle Ages to exploit the riches of copper, lead and silver.

Inside the park, you can visit the Museum of Archaeology and Minerals, and then continue to the Temper Mine. Here a 360-meter adventure awaits you, in which, equipped with a protective helmet, you can discover how minerals are mined from ancient times to the present.

The tour continues with a visit to Earle Shaft, the only one remaining of the five mining shafts original, where the Mining Machinery Museum and the Miner’s Museum have been set up, which tell the story of life and work in the fascinating world of mining. Afterwards, visitors can travel through the Lanzi-Temperino Tunnel aboard a small train that traces the route once reserved for transporting mined ore.

Proceeding on foot, we finally reach Rocca San Silvestro, a medieval village of miners and metal smelters. Here there is a unique trail that allows you to explore the remains of the dwellings, the church, cemetery, stately and industrial areas, a plunge into the past that tells stories of daily life
